This has been one of the craziest March Madness tournaments in recent memory, but hands down my best March Madness when it comes to betting. Currently, the overall tournament record holds at 31-16 with average odds of -120. This means that if you were a $100 bettor on each game, you would be up about $950.
Kansas State vs Kentucky -5.5 (-110)- Kentucky is one of the hottest team in the dance, and boy did they get hot at the right time. Kansas State looked terrible in their win over the UMBC Retrievers, who were coming off the first ever 16 over 1 seed upset. Kansas State should have leader scorer, Dean Wade available for the game, which will desperately help their scoring efforts. This will not be enough to hang with the “Kentucky” Wildcats, and UK should handle this one and build a lead in the 2nd half. I see Kentucky winning by 10 points. Pick- Kentucky -5.5 (-110)
Loyola Chicago vs Nevada -1 (-110)- Okay guys, who can bet against Sister Jean? Well, Sister Jean herself has the Ramblers losing in the Sweet 16. I feel a lot better about going against Loyola. Both teams come into this one with some improbable victories. You have the Ramblers who won their first game on a buzzer beater, and the second on a shot under 10 secs remaining in the game. Then you have the Wolfpack who were down 20pts with 8 mins to the Bearcats of Cincinnati in their last game. The game before that, they came back to beat Texas and sent the game to OT. I like Nevada’s depth in this one, also their senior leadership, and I think the Cinderella story for Loyola Chicago come to an end against the Wolfpack. Pick- Nevada -1 (-110)
Texas A&M vs Michigan -2.5 (-110)- This will be a fun match-up between the Aggies of the SEC and the Wolverines of the Big Ten. Michigan rolls into this one will a miraculous buzzer beater shot against the Houston Cougars. Texas A&M had a dominant performance over the Tar Heels, winning that one by 20. I like the Wolverines to excel from behind the arc lead by guards Simpson, Matthews, Poole and Abdur-Rahkman. This will be an up and down game and close throughout as the Aggie will try to really speed things up but Michigan will keep the Magic alive in March and win this one by 4. To be safe, I am going to pick Michigan to just win the game straight up, with no points involved. Pick- Michigan ML -150
Florida State vs Gonzaga -6 (-110)- Gonzaga is no stranger to the Sweet 16, as they made the Championship game last year, losing to the Tar Heels. Florida State is a long and lengthy team and could cause some trouble for the Zags in the paint. Gonzaga will look to play an in and out game, and I expect Perkins and Norvell Jr. to each have 3-5 three-pointers in this game. Tillie and Hachimura should stretch the floor, and Gonzaga is just the better team overall in this one. The X-factor in this game is the coaching of Mark Few compared to Leonard Williams in the coaching position, and I am confident that the Zags cover 6. Gonzaga will pull away down the stretch and I see them winning this one by 8. Gonzaga -6 (-110)
Picks will be posted Thursday night.
