SEC Betting Preview
Jake Fromm, Streeter Lecka/Getty Images

Jake Fromm will be behind center for the third straight year and experience will serve him well. Georgia is one of the best teams in the land and they have experience on both sides of the ball.

However, their schedule will test them this year. They will get everyone’s best shot every game as they are one of the favorites in go to the college football playoff. The Dawgs face off against Notre Dame on September 21st, and Auburn and Texas A&M later in the year. They also face Florida, Missouri (who will surprise some folks), Auburn on the road, and Texas A&M (full schedule).

The only concern I have for the Bulldogs is the loss of their defensive coordinator, Mel Tucker, to Colorado. Dan Lanning moved from the linebacker coach to defensive coordinator but should be comfortable in this new role. This defensive line is going to be loaded with JUCO transfer Jermaine Johnson and six seniors returning. Do I think Georgia can run the table? Of course, but ultimately I have them winning 11. They can take care of Notre Dame at home, but they may split up in conference play. I like their chances of winning out vs. losing two games, and therefore, I am going with the over 11 wins at +115.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 11 (+115), under 11 (-145)

SEC Betting Preview
Kelly Bryant, Tampa Bay Times

Two things going for this Tigers team are their schedule and Kelly Bryant. Kelly Bryant, the Clemson QB transfer, will have plenty of targets on offense, including Albert Okwuegbunam at TE and Jonathan Johnson at WR. Both players most likely will be playing on Sundays, and it will be exciting to watch this season.

The Tigers’ toughest non-conference game will be hosting a West Virginia team with a new coach in Week 2. Missouri has five home games in a row after they open with Wyoming on the road (Mizz favored by -16). The first home game will be against the Mountaineers, followed by SE Missouri St, South Carolina, Troy, and Ole Miss. Tigers could very easily be 6-0 at this point. They also draw Arkansas from the West, who is the weakest team from that side of the division (Full schedule here).

The schedule does get tougher with Georgia and Florida later in the year, but I am optimistic about this Tigers team. I have them going 10-2 with losses to Florida and Georgia, but a floor of nine wins. Bryant adds another threat on offense with his running ability, and this offense will be one of the best in the SEC. I am taking this over without question, even with some juice at -150.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 8 (-150), under 8 (+120)

2018 over/under win total: 8.5

2018 regular-season record: 9-3

There are high expectations for the Gators this season, deservingly so, as they have Dan Mullen at head coach and have the talent to back up those expectations.

The Gators offense has five returning starters led by QB Feleipe Franks, who threw for 2,457 yards and 24 TDs last season. He will be throwing to returning starters such as Van Jefferson and Josh Hammond. Senior RB Lamical Perine will be the workhorse tailback this season coming off a solid 2018 season. The defense will be returning eight starters as well and will be one of the best in the SEC.

The Gators do have a tough opener against Miami in Orlando, which is the opener to the college football season. The schedule does no favors for the Gators, as they face Auburn (home), LSU (away), Georgia (home) and Mizzou (Away) — (Full schedule). Then they close the season against rival Florida State (which I am high on this season and you can read here). I believe that the Gators are a tad better than the Tigers on paper, but their schedule is just that much tougher. I have the Gators winning nine games this year, but with such a tough schedule, I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up at 8-4. There is just so much hype surrounding this team, and we will see if they can live up to it.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 9 wins (+125), under 9 (-155)

2018 over/under win total: 5.5

2018 regular-season record: 9-3

Kentucky exceeded expectations last season going 9-3 but will have to replace their top players on each side of the ball with Benny Snell Jr. (RB) and Josh Allen (LB) gone to the NFL. Asim Rose, who was Snell’s back-up last year, averaged 6.2 yards a carry last season, and will be the workhorse for the Wildcats. Terry Wilson will be back at QB, but will need to make more plays without a guy like Snell in the backfield.

The Wildcats will have games against Florida, Mississippi State, and South Carolina right off the bat (full schedule).  Georgia (Away) and Missouri (Home) back to back in October will be tough tests also. Luckily, Kentucky has games against Arkansas, Louisville, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, and UT-Martin. I see Kentucky winning all five of these games. Even if they drop one, they’ll still be at four wins. They also have South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Tennessee on the schedule, and these will all be toss-ups. Kentucky will be in a good position to win seven games, and they will look to build off of the successful season last year. Go with the over 6.5 for the Cats.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 6.5 (-150), under 6.5 (+120)

2018 over/under win total: 5.5

2018 regular-season record: 5-7

Jeremy Pruitt will be entering his second year as head coach, and Tennessee will be expecting a bowl game this year. Their non-conference games are Georgia State, Chattanooga, BYU, and UAB (see full schedule here). Though all these games are home, BYU will be a tough nonetheless and will be close to a pick-em game. They also host Georgia and Mississippi State, which are both tough games, but at least they will be home at Neyland. This team will be lead by QB Jarrett Guarantano, who will need to elevate his play to get the Vols to a bowl game. The Vols struggled in the run game last year, averaging an SEC worst 3.7 yards a carry. The offensive line struggled and will need to improve as well. Considering the schedule, I have Tennessee making a bowl game, but ending under 6.5 wins, going 6-6.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 6.5 (-150), under 6.5 (+120)

South Carolina

2018 over/under win total: 7.5

2018 regular-season record: 7-5

The Gamecocks have the toughest strength and their schedule top-to-bottom is brutal. North Carolina is a neutral site game in Charlotte to start the season off. This is a game where the Gamecocks are a TD favorite, but it is a rival game. Then, they host Alabama and head to Missouri back-to-back (full schedule). They later travel to Georgia and host Florida in back-to-back weeks in October and finish their season with the defending national champion Clemson. I didn’t even mention Texas A&M on the road.

Jake Bentley will be behind center again for the Gamecocks and will need WR Bryan Edwards to have a big year. The defense will be decent and will be lead by TJ Brunson and the rest of the linebacking core. In all honesty, If South Carolina had a schedule like Mizz, I would have them winning 7 to 8 games. That isn’t the case, and I have the Gamecocks going 5-7. Please forgive me, Gamecock nation, but this schedule is just too tough. G0 with the under of 5.5 and grab this at +135.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 5.5 (-165), under 5.5 (+135)

Jared Pinkney, Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

2018 over/under win total: 4.5

2018 regular-season record: 6-6

When looking at Vandy’s schedule, I am immediately drawn to the first three games of the season — Georgia (home), Purdue (away) and LSU (home). Vandy would be lucky to win one of these games, but I don’t think they will. The Commodores do have an easy stretch in the middle of the season against NIU, Ole Miss and UNLV. They also play ETSU, which should be a win. (full schedule)  Tennessee and Florida will be two tough games on the road and two games in which they will be the underdogs.

Riley Neal (the Ball State transfer) and Duece Wallace will be battling for the starting QB spot. All indications lead to Riley being the start, but anything can happen once camp begins. Vandy also lost four of their top five tackles, so the defense will look to fill some of that void. Over 5 is at +175 but I don’t see Vandy winning six games with the 15th toughest schedule in the nation. I have them going 5-7 and missing a bowl game

2019 over/under win total prediction: Over 5 (+110), Under 5 (-140)

SEC West (SEC Betting Preview)

SEC Betting Preview
Tua Tagovailoa, Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

2018 over/under win total: 11

2018 regular-season record: 12-0

Alabama will, as always, has expectations to win the National Championship again this year (after losing to Clemson in the final last year). Texas A&M (away), LSU (home), and Auburn (away) are the three games that will give Alabama their toughest test and should be the favorite in all 12 of their regular-season games, barring something unexpected (full schedule). They open the season against Duke in Atlanta and have a road game against South Carolina in Week 3.

Tua Tagovailoa is back at QB, and it will be interesting to see if he can survive the season healthy (Hurts transferred to Oklahoma). This passing game is going to be something special with Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonta Smith at wideout. Tua will have plenty of options and there will be no trouble putting up points this season. The defense should be solid as well, but they were susceptible to giving up a lot of passing yards, as we saw with QBs such as  Jake Fromm, Kyler Murray, and Trevor Lawrence last year. There is no lack of talent on this team, but when it comes to this projected win total, you are either predicting the Tide to win out or lose a game. I think Bama slips up once, but will still take the North; I don’t love this bet either way, and with the odds at -300 for under, but that is where I lean.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 11 (175), under 11 (+145)

2018 over/under win total: 7

2018 regular-season record: 9-3

Joe Burrow had a great year last season behind center for the Tigers after transferring from Ohio State. He should continue his success this year and will need to with a tough schedule this season. This starts off in week 2 when the Tigers face a Longhorns team I have high hopes for. Florida and Auburn will be tough matchups (both at home) and then Alabama (road) will be one of the biggest games this year in the SEC (full schedule here).

Luckily for Burrow, his top-5 pass catchers are back, including guys such as Stephen Sullivan, Jamal Pettigrew and Justin Jefferson. The defense should be impressive for the Tigers, but they did lose players such as LB Devin White and CB Greedy Williams to the draft. I have this Tigers team winning 10 games and losing two — one to Texas and one to Alabama. 10-2 will land them second in the SEC West. Give me the over at -140

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 9 (-140), under 9 (+110)

Texas A&M

2018 over/under win total: 7

2018 regular-season record: 8-4

Texas A&M has so much talent coming into this season, but their schedule is brutal. They have a non-conference date with at Clemson, Auburn and Alabama at home, and then they end the season with Georgia and LSU on the road (full schedule).

As much as I like this team, lead by QB Kellen Mond, getting to eight wins will be tough. They would have to win one of those four games mentioned above, and they will have a good chance against Auburn. This is the Jimbo Fisher’s second season with the Aggies, and they will look to build off momentum winning in the Gator Bowl in a blowout NC State. I don’t feel comfortable about this line at all, as it is a toss-up for me, but I will go with the over here and predict a 8-4 regular season for the Aggies.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 7.5 (-120), under 7.5 (-110)

2018 over/under win total: 9

2018 regular-season record: 7-5

Auburn went 7-5 last year and will have the task of facing both Georgia and Alabama on the schedule this season. There is uncertainty at the quarterback position, and their schedule is really tough beginning with a Week 1 match-up against a good Oregon team in Arlington. Malik Willis was Stidham’s backup the last two years, but decided to transfer at the end of spring practice. Redshirt freshman Joey Gatewood and true freshman Bo Nix will be in battle for the starting position. Anything can happen in fall camp, so we will keep an eye on this. They will have road games at Texas A&M and Florida (full schedule). They also have very winnable games against Toledo, Kent State, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Samford. I have the Tigers winning eight games, and going with the over at 7.5 at (+110).

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 7.5 (-140), under 7.5 (+110)

Mississippi State

2018 over/under win total: 8

2018 regular-season record: 8-4

Joe Moorhead enters his second season with the Bulldogs and will look to build off some momentum from last season. As for 2019, the Bulldogs face Kansas State at home to begin the season, which could be a tough win. They have challenging games with Auburn, Texas A&M and Auburn. The Bulldogs host Kentucky and travel to Tennessee in their games against SEC East teams (full schedule here). I believe they will win all their non-conference games, but will struggle in conference play.

There will be a QB battle in fall camp between Keytaon Thompson — who was last year’s back-up — and Penn State graduate transfer Tommy Stevens. It will be interesting who comes up on top here. I have Mississippi State going 8-4 and I am riding the over here. I am not super confident about this line though, and it is a toss-up in my mind.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 7.5 (-165), under 7.5 (+135)

Ole Miss

2018 over/under win total: 5

2018 regular season record: 5-7

Ole Miss could be in for a rough season, which starts with a sneaky tough road spot against Memphis to start the season. Out of all teams in the SEC week 1, they are the only team not favorite (minus UGA vs Vandy, whom are both in the SEC). The Rebels have to play both Alabama and Auburn on the road, A road spot at Missouri will be tough as well as a home game against Texas A&M — both games I predict they lose. They finish their season with Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. (full schedule). A road spot at Missouri will be tough as well as a home game against Texas A&M, both games I predict they lose.

Not an easy schedule all around for the Rebels, and they would be fortunate to win five games. There could be a potential QB battle between the three freshmen QBs, and Ole Miss lost most of their playmakers in D.K. Metcalf, A.J. Brow, DaMarkus Lodge, and Dawson Knox. The juice is at -170 for over 4.5 and I am taking the under 4.5 wins with the +150.

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 5 (+115), under 5 (-145)

2018 over/under win total: 5.5

2018 regular-season record: 2-10

Well last but not, well they are least in the West is Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Chad Morris will still be seeking his first SEC victory. Former SMU QB Ben Hicks will most likely be the starter to begin the season. They have a super easy non-conference schedule, as they should beat Portland State, Colorado State, San Jose State and Western Kentucky. This gives them four wins, but do they get a 5th or 6th in conference play? The answer for me is no (full schedule here). I actually have this team going 4-8 and 0-8 in the conference. This line is off and should be 4.5, and therefore, I am taking the under 5.5 all day!

2019 over/under win total prediction: over 5.5 (+125), under 5.5 (-155)
